LAHORE, Sept 11: The Alzheimer’s Pakistan and Mayo Hospital on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a dementia clinic at the Outpatients Department of Mayo Hospital.
The MoU was signed by Mayo Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Pervaiz and Alzheimer’s Pakistan Secretary Husain Jafri. Mr Frank Schaper from Alzheimer's Australia and Dr Ali Hashmi from Mayo Hospital/KEMU signed the MoU as witnesses.
The clinic is first of its kind in Pakistan and will serve as a model to be replicated in other teaching hospitals too, in addition to providing its services to the elderly patients.
The clinic will serve as the regional referral centre for people with dementia and it is envisaged that it will be converted into a centre of excellence in dementia care and management The Alzheimer’s Pakistan is the national organisation of Alzheimer’s and related dementias in Pakistan. The main objective of this organisation is to work towards the welfare of people suffering from dementia and their caregivers.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia.
