Quaid’s death anniversary observed

ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: The 64th death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah was observed on Tuesday with reverence and a pledge to follow his golden principles of “unity, faith and discipline”.

Several public and private organisations as well as educational institutions arranged functions to highlight different aspects of the life of Quaid-i-Azam, recalling his vision and indefatigable struggle for a homeland for Muslims of the Subcontinent.

People from different walks of life visited the Quaid’s mausoleum in Karachi to lay wreaths and offer Fateha.

The Nazriya-i-Pakistan Council arranged Quran Khwani at Islamabad’s Faisal Mosque to commemorate the occasion.

Major mosques across the country also organised Quran Khwani. Ambassadors from Muslim countries, scholars, politicians and representatives of civil society attended the Quran Khwani.

The Pakistan Academy of Letters will organise a seminar on “Literature and Tehrik-i-Pakistan” on Wednesday. The Federal Secretary for National Heritage and Integration, Asif Ghafoor, will chair the seminar while Dr Ehsan Akbar will be the chief guest.

Dr Salah-ud-Din Darvaish will read an essay on the Quaid written by Manto while Anjum Khaleeq and Khurshid Rabbani will pay poetic tribute to the Father of the Nation.

Sadia Sarwat will present a paper on “Was Jinnah secular” at a function in the federal capital organised by the Islamabad Cultural Forum.—APP
