PESHAWAR, Dec 27: The issue of violence against women needed special  attention as various inhuman customs and traditions were prevalent in the society, Ms Zubaida Khatoon, chief provincial officer, United Nation Children’s Fund (Unicef), said on Friday.

Ms Zubaida was speaking at a farewell reception hosted for her by the NGOs Coalition for Child Rights (NCCR). Her tenure as the provincial head of Unicef will end on Dec 31.

The reception was attended by the members of leading NGOs, working  for child and women rights. The chief of Rise, Prof Ismael, regional  director, Aurat Foundation, Rukhshanda Naz, chief executive, Human Resource Management and Development Centre, Bushra Gohar and chief of Award, Maimoona Masood, also spoke on the occasion.

The speakers appreciated her services for the cause of the civil society organizations (CSOs), especially, for women education in the NWFP.
