ISLAMABAD, Sept 8: The government ought to develop a programme that can be implemented in the pursuit of basic, higher and improved education for everyone.

This was stated by participants of a literacy walk organised at the Liaquat Gymnasium Sports Complex by the National Commission of Human Development (NCHD) on Saturday.

NCHD Chairperson MNA Dr Nafisa Shah, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Chairman Pakistan Baitul Maal Zamurud Khan, Ministry of Education and Trainings Federal Secretary Chaudhry Qamar Zaman and other reputed individuals connected to the education sector of Pakistan as well as students from various institutes participated in the walk.

Local musicians performed NCHD songs on education and literacy along with national songs. The walk also aimed at spreading their messagethrough banners across Islamabad.

The efforts culminated in a seminar on Literacy Day during which the guests addressed a gathering of students of the federal board, Sweet Homes Pakistan Baitul Maal, youth groups, civil society and relevant officials of the country.

At the moment Pakistan’s literacy rate is 58 per cent, and is increasing by five per cent every year. According to the millennium development goal, the literary rate has to rise to 75 per cent by 2015.
