LAHORE: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) met with Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Tuesday to discuss the county's political situation and problems faced by the people.

The three-member MQM delegation, led by Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar, met with PML-N leaders here at the Punjab House.

The delegation also comprised of the MQM’s Federal Ports and Shipping Minister Senator Babar Ghauri and Senator Tahir Mashhadi, while the PML-N was represented by leaders Ishaq Dar and Pervez Rasheed.

Speaking to media representatives after the meeting, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said that although the MQM is part of the ruling coalition government, it still thinks like an opposition party with regard to the general public’s problems.

He said that after the meeting the MQM, it felt like they were part of the opposition and their agenda was similar to that of his party on national issues.

Dar said that the PML-N believes the solution to these problems lie in immediately holding early elections, while the MQM also proposes that the polls should not be delayed. Both parties agree on holding early elections, he added.

Dar said that the PML-N and MQM are have similar views and are on the same page for resolution of these problems.

Also speaking to the media, Dr Sattar said that the agenda of the meeting was to discuss matters relating to the country’s security and stability.

He said that political parties should work on a national agenda based on a national consensus.

He said that all the political forces must also work together to provide relief to the masses. He said all the political parties were responsible for the success of failure of the country.

Dr Farooq Sattar said that the Nawaz league has been invited to visit the MQM’s ‘Nine Zero’ headquarters in Karachi to talk about the poor law and order situation in Karachi and Balochistan, and the rising inflation in the country.

Dar said that PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had already spoken of a national charter which was a need for the country due to economic and security challenges.

He added that the PML-N would decide on the invitation after consultation with party leadership.
