Pakistan to feature in Asian Baseball Championship

LAHORE: Pakistan will take part in the Asian Baseball Championship to be held in Taiwan in the last week of November.

Pakistan Baseball Federation (PFB) secretary Khawar Shah said that the camp for the event would start from Oct 1 at Lahore.

Asia’s top six teams Japan, South Korea, China, Pakistan, Thailand along with the hosts will take part in the event. Pakistan are in the event courtesy their fifth-placed ranking in the continent.

Meanwhile, Khawar added that the country’s U-15 team would participate in BFA (AA) Baseball Championship to be held in India in November and the training camp for that event will also start from Oct 1.

“PFB’s general council has approved participation in the events,” Khawar said. “Meanwhile, it has also been decided that the National Women’s Championship will be held in December.”

The National Men’s Championship will be held in November in which Army, Wapda, Police, Punjab, Baluchsitan and Sindh would take part.

Khawar added that the PFB has elected Mohammad Mohsin Khan from Sindh as the senior vice president and Zubair from Punjab as finance secretary. Similarly, Qaiser Murtaza from Army will be the chairman of the national selection committee.

In another positive move, the PFB would be launching its official website.

Khawar informed that any School, Little League Baseball, Pony Baseball and any Provincial Baseball associations can send their teams for the competition abroad, but they have to submit a surety bond worth Rs500,000 for each participant from their father/guardian.

“The PFB will provide NOCs and technical assistance,” Khawar said. “Expenses of the teams, though, will be borne by the participating units.”
