Bill to increase minority seats may be tabled in next NA session: Akram Gill

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interfaith Harmony Akram Masih Gill expressed hope that the bill for enhancement of minority seats would be tabled in the National Assembly session commencing on Sept 3.

Talking to VOA, he said the government had decided to enhance seats for religious minorities in the National Assembly and the Provincial Assemblies and in this regard, the federal cabinet had approved a bill unanimously which would be tabled in the National Assembly's upcoming session.

He said the law ministry had submitted the bill in the federal cabinet.

Gill thanked cabinet members for supporting the bill and said the bill had been approved unanimously.

The state minister said a sense of insecurity and deprivation that prevailed among the country's religious minorities would be addressed through enhancing their seats in the national and provincial assemblies.

He said minorities would get more developmental funds through their representatives.
