Opposition’s protest

LAHORE, Dec 24: The joint opposition in the Punjab Assembly staged a demonstration outside the assembly building in protest against prorogation of the session, terming it an attempt to bulldoze the opposition.

The MPAs belonging to the PPP, the PML-N and the MMA tried to hold their own meeting inside the house when the speaker left for his chamber after proroguing the session for lack of quorum.

However, they came out shortly to publicly protest against what they described as an “attempt by the government to crush the opposition.” They also raised slogans against the PML-Q government and the chief minister.

Their leaders, including Qasim Zia and Rana Sanaullah Khan, said the actions of the government did not match its professions.

“The chief minister had said he would take the opposition along but has now tried to bulldoze it by staying away from the session and pointing out short quorum,” they said. — Staff Reporter
