Law enforcers not fulfilling their duties in Karachi: CJ

KARACHI: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday said that the law enforcement agencies were not fulfilling their responsibilities in Karachi.

Speaking during a meeting with members of different bar councils belonging to Sindh at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry, Chaudhry said that rule of law was essential for survival of the democratic system in the country.

The chief justice lamented on security of lawyers and judges as they have been targeted by miscreants.

Justice Chaudhry said under the constitution, it is the duty of state to protect life, property, dignity and honor of its citizens.

The bar councils’ representatives assured the chief justice that they will continue to play their role in ensuring supremacy of the law.
