Explosion at clinic

RAWALPINDI, Aug 29: An explosion caused by a ‘cracker’ at private clinic of a retired army general’s son on Peshawar road created panic and fear in the neighbourhood on Wednesday night, bomb disposal experts said.

When contacted, Dr Hamid Hassan, who is associated with Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) as professor of surgery, said that he had been informed that an explosion had taken place at the gate of his clinic.

He said: “I was not in the clinic when the explosion occurred that caused damage to the windowpanes and partially destroyed a vehicle. However, nobody was injured or hurt.”

Dr Hassan, a son of Gen (retd) Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan, received a threat call from unidentified persons last Friday. The callers demanded Rs100 million ransom and gave a 72-hour ultimatum to him.
