PESHAWAR, Aug 28: Members of the minority communities are concerned over what they say government’s indifference towards their plight.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday Dr Suran Singh, a representative of the Sikh community, said despite repeated appeals the government had failed to take appropriate steps for protection of lives and properties of the members of the minority communities.

Flanked by former deputy attorney general Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Hardayal Singh, Ashok Kapoor and a number of people from Hindu and Sikh communities, Dr Singh said the members of National Assembly and Senate hailing from Hindu and Sikh communities had failed to raise voice for their respective communities.

He said the incidents of kidnapping for ransom, forced marriages and killing of innocent people hailing from Hindu, Sikh and other religions were frequently occurring in the country in general and Sindh province in particular.

Dr Singh expressed concern over the migration of Hindus from Sindh province, and said it was result of the absence of concrete measures for the protection of monitories and poor law and order situation.

Mr Singh also pointed out that the government was not sincere to fully implement the five per cent special job quota for minorities.

He claimed that even a single class-IV employee hailing from minority community was not recruited by the government during its four years term.

Former deputy attorney general Khurshid Ahmad said on the occasion that the basic reasons behind huge number of Hindus migrating from Sindh province were deteriorating law and order, extortion of money and land grabbing.

He said the incidents of kidnapping for ransom, gang rape and forceful conversion of members of Hindu community, were on the rise in Sindh.

Mr Khurshid said minorities had only option to leave their properties behind and say goodbye to the country for safer places anywhere in the world.

He said the government and agencies knew well who was behind the murder and rape of Hindu girls in Sindh.
