ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf formed on Tuesday a four-member committee headed by Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to pursue the Aafia Siddiqui case.
Mr Ashraf announced the formation of the committee during his meeting with former US attorney general William Ramsey Clark.
The committee, headed by the foreign minister, comprises ministers for law, interior and human rights.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Aafia Siddiqui’s sister Fauzia Siddiqui, the prime minister assured ‘all possible assistance’ in the case.
He said the government was aware of the agony of the Siddiqui family.
Ms Siddiqui is currently serving 86-year sentence in Federal Medical Centre, Carswell, in Fort Worth, Texas.
In February 2010, she was found guilty of committing armed assault on US military officials and attempted murder.
The government had earlier paid $2 million for Ms Siddiqui’s three lawyers during her trial.
The government has long been calling upon the US to repatriate Ms Siddiqui to Pakistan.
