LAHORE, Aug 27: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has criticised the PPP government for repeatedly seeking relaxation from the judiciary for implementing court orders in the NRO case and termed its attitude humiliating for the judiciary.

“Seeking time from the Supreme Court again and again is tantamount to its humiliation,” he told journalists at the residence of actress Zeba here on Monday.

He lauded the role superior courts were playing and said the judiciary was doing its job with true sense of responsibility keeping in view the rule of law and the Constitution.

He said the government had been underestimating the judiciary for four years.

In reply to a question about the party’s opposition to the national commission on new provinces, he accused the government of nominating its favourites to panel because official institutions were being used for some vested interests.

Earlier, he told a delegation of the Supreme Court Bar Association that his party believed in the supremacy of law and complete independence of judiciary.

The delegation was led by SCBA President Yasin Azad.

The PML-N chief asked the association to submit its proposals for making the process of appointment of judges more transparent.

A member of delegation claimed that the purpose of the visit was to persuade the PML-N chief to accept a human rights activist as the caretaker prime minister for averting any possibility of prolongation of the tenure of the interim set-up by up to three years.

He claimed that Mr Sharif was urged to ensure that his party did not get involved in the ongoing tussle bet-ween the judiciary and the executive.

But PML-N officials did not confirm the report while Mr Azad was not available for comments.
