Nokia shares jump on Apple-Samsung ruling

HELSINKI: Shares in Nokia, the No 2 cellphone maker, rose more than six per cent early on Monday after its bigger rival Samsung Electronics lost a court case against Apple.

A US jury found the Korean company had copied critical features of the hugely popular iPhone and iPad and awarded the US company $1.05 billion in damages.

“In addition to Apple, we name Microsoft and Nokia as the main beneficiaries from this outcome,” Nordea analyst Sami Sarkamies said in a research note.

Nokia and its software partner Microsoft have been struggling to win ground from Samsung's Android-powered smartphones which lead the market.
