MANSEHRA, Aug 26: Five members of a family were injured critically when a house collapsed due to heavy rain in Dodial area on Sunday.

The residents of the area said that Mohammad Amjad, his mother Noor Jehan, sister-in-law Nighat Bibi and two children Fiza and Saddam were buried under the ruble when their house collapsed in the morning.

Local people rushed to the scene and retrieved the injured from the rubble and shifted them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

The heavy rain, which started on Saturday evening, continued for entire night in Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and Kohistan districts.

Also, body of a woman was found at the bank of the Kunhar River near Sari area of Gharihabibullah on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Naseema Bibi, a resident of Muzafarabad. Her body was handed over to relatives after autopsy at civil hospital in Gharihabibullah.

Meanwhile, 10-year-old Mohammad Maawia, who was bitten by a snake in Balakot three days ago, died at Ayub MedicalComplex Hospital in Abbottabad.

COMPENSATION: Provincial Minister for Irrigation Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah has said that government will compensate those families, who have suffered financial losses due to monsoon rains in Balakot.

“The government has taken all possible steps to protect the life and property of people during the monsoon season in the province. Those residents of Balakot tehsil who have suffered financial losses will be compensated,” he told the affected families after inspecting the damage caused by the recent rains to Hassari Housing Colony.

Mr Shah said that check dam would be constructed in the area to protect the residents of the colony. He directed the officials concerned to divert the flow of Hassari stream so that it could not cause damage to the colony again.

The minister said that district administration had already issued warning to people living at the banks of rivers in Mansehra. He said that Kaghan Development Authority would execute different development projects.

Mr Shah said that government had taken up the issue of delay in reconstruction of infrastructure damaged in the October 8, 2005 earthquake in Hazara particularly in Balakot.
