MITHI, Aug 24: Leaders of a multi-parties conference have asked the government not to assign relief operations to deputy commissioner and officials of district administration keeping in mind the massive misappropriation they committed during last year’s goods meant for rain victims. The conference was held under the aegis of Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party.
They demanded a probe into last year’s misconduct and cancellation of registration of NGOs found involved in issuing fake relief tokens, besides, transfer of DC.
They proposed formation of relief committees which should be comprised of representatives of every political party and social workers for transparent distribution of goods.
An STP leader Nandlal Malhi said that the government was quick in declaring Thar a ‘calamity hit district’ but didn’t announce any package.
A massive operation for migrating population should be launched forthwith.
Representatives of Jamaat-i-Islami, Awami Tehrik, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, PML (N), Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, journalists and social workers attended the conference.
