PPP decides to consult allies over PM’s appearance before court

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) core committee late on Friday decided to consult coalition partners over appearance of the prime minister before the apex court on August 27, DawnNews reported.

The meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, was co-chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and was attended by other high-level leaders of the party.

Besides deciding to consult allied parties on the upcoming Supreme Court hearing, the high-level meeting also discussed overall political situation and power crisis in the country.

Law Minister Farooq H Naek briefed the meeting over legal and constitutional aspects of the case.

Meanwhile, Water and Power Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar and PM Ashraf briefed on energy crisis plaguing the country.

The meeting also decided that rights of minorities in the country will be protected at any cost and discrimination against them will not be tolerated.

Former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani also attended the meeting.

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will hear the NRO implementation case on Monday and the prime minister has already been issued notice by the bench to appear before the court in person.
