KARACHI, Dec 23: Prevention of renal disease was discussed at a seminar on Kidney — the forgotten factor in hypertension, organized by the Department of Nephrology, Liaquat National Hospital, here on Monday.
The aim of organizing the seminar was to provide general physicians, practitioners and people fresh information and apprise them of the latest research on renal diseases as well as preventive measures. Dr Iffat Yazdani, head of the Nephrology Department, who has been in the forefront of the campaign to achieve the objective, conducted the programme.
Dr Mansoor Ahmad, head of the Department of Cardiology, presented his paper on The risk factors that co-exist with hypertension and renal disease. He said that a decrease in cardiovascular mortality was very much possible if renal diseases were diagnozed at an early stage. He tipped that emergence of protein in a hypertensive patient’s urine could be a good marker of cardiovascular mortality.
Dr Khurram Shahid, a medicine consultant, gave a detailed view of the inevitable effects of hypertension on kidney.
The presentations were followed by an interaction session involving the speakers and the audience.
Dr Khalid Z. Hashmi, Medical Director, distributed certificates at the end of the seminar.—APP
