ISLAMABAD, Aug 22: The capital police on Wednesday submitted a report to the president regarding alleged involvement of a minor girl in burning of some religious stuff.
President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar when contacted confirmed that the report had been submitted in the presidency on Wednesday.
The Christian girl in the capital’s rural areas was recently arrested on blasphemy charges and President Asif Ali Zardari took serious notice and called for report from the interior ministry.
The report was prepared by a senior police officer who reproduced the incident and the statement of the local prayer leader who saw the girl carrying the burnt stuff in a shopper, a police officer told Dawn.
Besides, the details written in the FIR (first information report) was also reproduced in the report, the officer said, adding the protesters raids at the girl’s house and police stations and their protest at Kashmir Chok were also mentioned in the report. The report said the girl, suffering from down syndrome, had admitted the mistake. Medical examination of the girl was conducted to ascertain her mental condition, but report is awaited, he added.
Besides, the girl was illiterate and could not read and recognise the language written on the stuff, the officer said. After theincident the family was removed to their native village.
Moreover, investigation into the incident was yet to be started, sources told Dawn. The girl was, however, sent to Adiala jail on judicial remand. — Munawer Azeem
