KARACHI, Aug 18: The provincial government on Saturday imposed a 72-hour ban on pillion-riding, which comes into effect on the stroke of midnight, officials said.

The restriction — which was lifted for the Eid holidays if it remained in force during Ramazan in the past — comes amid a surge in targeted killings and sectarian violence in recent days.

A senior official said a notification in this regard had been issued by the Sindh home department.

“The Sindh government has imposed a ban on pillion-riding of motorcycles in the provincial metropolis for three days to maintain law and order during Eidul Fitr,” he said quoting the notification. He added that senior citizens, women, children and journalists would be exempted from the ban.—Staff Reporter
