Jobless man attempts to commit suicide

RAWALPINDI, Dec 22: An unemployed man was injured when he tried to commit suicide by piercing a scissor into his belly, police sources told Dawn on Sunday.

Mohammad Arshad, 40, a resident of Hukamdad Mohalla in his statement recorded with the Waris Khan police said he attempted to commit suicide due to joblessness.

The sources said the man was employed in a workshop but lost his job a few months back. He continued seeking a job but failed, they added.

Mr Arshad was taken to Rawalpindi General Hospital by the family members when they heard his screams, the sources said. The man is said to be in a stable condition, they added.

The police have registered a case of suicide attempt against Mr Arshad.

Meanwhile, four robbers entered a house in sector G-10/3 on Saturday night and made off with cash and gold ornaments, police sources said.

According to the sources, four masked persons carrying pistols entered the house of Masood Khalique and held his family hostage at gunpoint in his absence.
