Independence Day celebrated with fervour in Sindh

HYDERABAD, Aug 14: The country’s 65th Independence Day was celebrated across Sindh with traditional zeal. Besides official programmes, rallies were also staged in the city to mark the day.

At an official ceremony, Divisional Commissioner of Hyderabad Ahmed Bux Narejo hoisted the national flag at the district nazim secretariat. Addressing the gathering, he said that the country was achieved after many sacrifices.

National anthem, tableaus and national songs were presented by school children. Police guards presented guard of honours and played the tunes of national anthem.

PML-N activists took out a rally from Kacha Qila to press club. Activists of People’s Hari Committee including children also held a rally. They sang national anthems and delivered speeches highlighting importance of the day.

Sindh Agriculture University organised a programme in the campus. After flag hoisting ceremony, Vice Chancellor Dr A Q Mughal paid tribute to founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of the Pakistan Movement.

In another programme Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh Dr Nazir A.Mughal said that the day reminds people associated with education sector to unite and work for betterment of education and progress of university. Senator Aajiz Dhamrah said: “We will have to understand philosophy of independence and it’s a great blessing of Almighty Allah. If anyone wants to know value of independence, they should meet a prisoner.”

He said that the Quaid-i-Azam gave nation a separate country while Z.A. Bhutto gave it a constitution. Dictatorships always suppressed voice of people in Pakistan but democracy always gave freedom of expression to everyone.

Mughal and Senator Aajiz Dhamrah jointly announced Rs10,000 for students who performed on occasion.

In Mithi, main function of independence was held at the ground of Government Boys High School, where students of various schools presented speeches and highlighted the history of independence. Similar functions were held at other schools of the town.

Similar ceremonies were held in Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Sukkur and other cities of the province.
