Robbers have a field day in Kohat

KOHAT, Aug 14: Local residents on Tuesday lost cash and valuables to robbers in separate incidents.

Waseem, a resident of Hayat Shaheed Colony, told police that four men entered his house at gunpoint, locked the family inside a room, looted Rs0.2 million cash, 12 tolas of gold jewelry and Rs1.3 million other goods, and fled.

Also in the day, armed men snatched a pistol from motorcyclist Arshad Khan in the posh locality of KDA, and escaped.

Police registered separate robbery cases and arrested some suspects but failed to recover the spoils.

Meanwhile, Kohat city police on Tuesday arrested two people after seizure of Rs38,000 fake notes in Bazaar-i-Mustafa.

The fake notes were seized after police body-searched Mohammad Yasin and Naimatullah, both residents of Doaba area in Hangu.

The two later told police that they bought the notes in the tribal region and wanted to use them for Eid shopping in Kohat.

Meanwhile, Kohat division commissioner Sahibzada Mohammad Anis on Tuesday stressed the need for national unity to meet internal and external challenges faced by the country.

Speaking at an Independence Day function at Town Hall, the commissioner said the country wanted its people to stay united for peace and prosperity.

He said terrorism had shaken the country to its foundations and therefore, needed to be combated.
