ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: The counsel for the missing spokesman of banned outfit Hizbut Tahrir (HuT) on Monday requested the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the arrest of spy masters and registration of a second FIR against Inspector General Punjab in connection with the alleged abduction of the activist.

Arguing the petition filed for the recovery of Naveed Butt the HuT’s missing spokesman, Advocate Umar Hayyat Sandhu said that the IHC on June 25 had already warned the police officials including the IG Punjab, senior superintendent of police (SSP) and other senior officials of Lahore police for registering the criminal case against them if they fail to recover the missing activist within a fortnight.

Advocate Sandhu told the court that an FIR for the alleged illegal abduction of Naveed Butt has already been lodged against the directors’ general Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI), deputy directors’ ISI and MI (Lahore) in theLiaqatabad police station of Lahore on June 25.

The FIR states, Butt was abducted by the officials of intelligence agencies on May 11, when he reached his house at GovernmentEmployees Cooperative Housing Society in Lahore along with his school-going children.

Ashtar Ausaf, advocate general Punjab on the other hand told the court that since Butt allegedly went missing from Lahore, therefore, IHC being a high court of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) could not hear the petition for his recovery because the area was beyond of IHC’s jurisdiction.

He suggested that the matter for the recovery of missing activist could be sent to the commission of inquiry on the enforced disappearance which is a judicial body constituted by the Supreme Court for the recovery of the missing persons.

The court, however, directed the secretaries defence and interior to expedite efforts for the recovery of missing activist and adjourned hearing till August 28.

According to the petition filed by Sadia Rahat, the spouse of Butt, her husband went missing on May 5.

The petitioner’s counsel, Umar Hayat Sandhu, had contended that Butt was detained by the officials of spy agencies: ISI and MI.

He said his client was on his way home after picking up his children from school, when intelligence agencies’ officials kidnapped him near Liaquatabad.

The petition alleged that Butt had received threatening calls from unknown callers before he went missing.
