Two bombs defused in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 13: Police on Monday thwarted two separate attempts of terrorism by getting three explosive devices defused in Nar Raza Khan and Tajazai areas of the district.

A police official said people of Nar Raza Khan village near Naurang town informed police about suspected material lying by a tubewell.

He said police rushed to the place and found two homemade explosive devices there.

“We called in bomb disposal squad, which successfully defused them,” he said.

The official said the two devices weighed 15 kg and were attached to a battery, a detonator, explosive wire and two stopwatches. Also in the day, Ghaznikhel police foiled a bid to blow up power pylons of 66,000KV transmission line near Tajazai area.

An official said an explosive device planted by unidentified people by power pylons of transmission line was defused by bomb disposal squad. He said the device weighed 2.5 kg and was connected to detonator and a stopwatch.

Meanwhile, All Employees Coordination Council, Lakki Marwat workers on Monday took out a rally to express solidarity with the Tehsil Municipal Administration employees protesting the appointment of TMO Asmatullah Khan Marwat.

They sought the help of the Employees’ Coordination Council to make their protest effective and press the government for canceling the TMO posting.

Saeed Akhtar, Maulana Tameezudin, Haji Anwar Kamal, Haji Jamal Shah, Haji Abdul Rahim and Shakir Hayat led the rally, which began from Tanchi office and ended at Kargil Chowk on Mianwali Road.

The speakers said the TMO appointment had generated a controversy, which had paralysed financial and other affairs of the civic body.

“It has also badly affected the matters related to water supply, sanitation, firefighting and cleanliness,” a speaker said, adding that the TMA funds hadn’t been used for development.

The speakers urged the relevant authorities to cancel the TMO posting for easing tensions.—Correspondent
