THE University of Sindh allotted land to its employees. It was registered with the co-operatives department of Sindh in 1975 as the Sindh University Employees Co-operative Housing Society, Jamshoro.
The residential plots allotted to its employees were to be maintained and governed by the Society’s governing body elected by the members.
For the last three decades the funds collected as development charges have not been used: no roads were constructed, nor any proper drainage system and water supply were provided to the residents.
Elections have not been held for many years, not a single general body has been called, and no audit has been conducted which is mandatory in accordance with the societies act. The Society’s secretary has been in office for the last four years but has not delivered. Rather the situation has deteriorated.
The residents are not getting any civic services. Water supply is eratic and no security is being provided to residents, though theft cases are being reported every now and then.
