LAHORE, Aug 10: The Lahore High Court on Friday directed the police to produce the father-in-law and son of Faizan Haider who was shot dead along with his friend Faheem by CIA contractor Raymond Davis in 2011 at Qartaba Chowk.
Faizan’s brother Imran Haider filed a petition for the recovery of his nephew, Muhammad Ahmad, from the custody of Shahzad Butt, the father in-law of his (deceased) brother.
Following the court’s previous notices a police officer appeared before the court and stated that the respondents were not found at the address mentioned in the petition. He sought more time for the production of the respondents.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi allowed the request and adjourned hearing till Aug 13.
Petitioner Imran Haider submitted that after receiving blood money from Raymond Davis, his brother’s wife Zara Faizan hadshifted to her parents’ house along with the minor son. Later, he said, Zara and her mother Nabila were found murdered in their Johar Town house.
He alleged that his brother’s father in-law had killed his daughter and wife to grab the money.
He requested the court to get the child recovered from the custody of Shahzad and hand over his nephew to him.
Remand cancelled: The Lahore High Court cancelled on Friday the physical remand of a blind person obtained by police from a judicial magistrate in a dacoity case.
The court also granted bail to blind accused Hafiz Muhammad Naeem subject to furnishing of a bail bond of Rs20,000.
On the court’s direction, judicial magistrate Zafar Iqbal Sial, who granted the remand, appeared and pleaded that the accused was not blind.
The court, however, rejected the plea and observed that the medical record of the accused proved that he had been blind since childhood.
The court expressed dismay over the poor performance of the police and the prosecution department as well.
The court directed its office to send a copy of the order to the DIG (Investigations) Lahore for necessary action against the delinquent police officials.
Nazir Ahmad had filed a petition saying the police arrested his relative Naeem in a dacoity case. He said Naeem had been blind since childhood and the police implicated him in the case with mala fide intention.
