Man injures brother, sister over land feud

KARAK, Aug 10: A man on Thursday injured his brother and a sister after firing gunshots at them over a land dispute in Sabirabad area.

Police said Mohammad Shah, a resident of Biland Kala area, opened fire on his brother Eid Badshah and sister Bibi Fatima after they stopped him from laying water pipeline on a disputed land.

They said the two suffered injures and were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Karak, where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The attacker fled.

Police later booked Mr Shah for trying to kill two people and began investigation. However, the accused couldn’t be arrested until night.

Meanwhile, a van driver on Friday returned home in Karak after remaining in the custody of kidnappers for three days.

District police officer Sajjad Khan told reporters that kidnappers abandoned Khursheed, a resident of Jandri area, near Kasho bridge of Karak-Bannu Road on Saturday night.

He added that police helped the driver reach home.

A relative of the van driver’s family denied payment of ransom to kidnappers.

Mr Khursheed had gone missing after eight people, including seven women, hired him along with his van for Mianwali.

The relative said the driver was kidnapped near Hameedan area and kept in a house at an unidentified place.

He said kidnappers demanded Rs0.5 million but freed the driver without securing ransom possibly fearing arrest.

The district police officer said security would be provided to people and that police were alert for the last decade of Ramazan. He asked people to help police maintain peace.

Also in the day, police of Shah Saleem area recovered a motorcycle within an hour of its theft and arrested two people.

The arrested people were Khalid Raza and Gul Shaheed, residents of Karidhand area.Police also arrested proclaimed offender Sadratullah and seized weapons.
