NAWABSHAH, Dec 21: A group of activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians took out a procession here on Saturday to protest against the Chemi Visco Fibre Factory for not providing jobs to local people.
The protesters were carrying placards and were raising slogans against the factory management.
They forcibly entered the district council hall where a session was about to start.
District Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur and convener Khalid Hussain Channa asked the protesters to remain peaceful and send their representatives for briefing the council on the matter.
After being briefed by MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio and other PPP activists, the convener suspended the session and asked Nazims to join the protesters in their march towards the press club.
Opposition leader Syed Munir Shah, the Nazim of Pir Zakria union council, and Nazim Ghulam Mustafa Soomro asked the convener to start the proceedings, as leaving the council would be a violation of the code of conduct, but the convener left the hall, along with other Awam Dost Panel Nazims.
The district Nazim and Awami Ittihad Nazims remained in the hall.
The Awami Ittihad Nazims said this was a planned procession and they should have been taken into confidence earlier.
Talking to newsmen, the opposition leader said the convener had no right to suspend the session without completing the required procedure.
He said all codes of conduct were broken by allowing the protesters to enter the hall.
