HOBART: Former New Zealand test all-rounder Scott Styris has signed to play for the Hobart Hurricanes in Australia's Big Bash Twenty20 league next season.

The 37-year-old Styris retired from international cricket last year after playing 29 tests,188 one day internationals and 31 Twenty20 matches for New Zealand.

He has since played in Twenty20 leagues around the world, recently hitting a century from 37 balls for English county Sussex.

Styris said, “I'm enjoying my involvement in franchise T20 cricket around the world and have always enjoyed the challenge of playing in Australia against Australians.”

He joins Englishman Owais Shah at the Hurricanes who reached the semifinals of the Big Bash League last season.
