Tribal students’ concerns
PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Tribal students belonging to Bajuar Agency have criticised the political administration for not allowing them to arrange a free education programme for the poor students.
Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, central vice president of FATA Students Federation Shafi Ahmad Safi said they had designed a comprehensive programme for provision of free tuition facility, special rewards for position holder students and arranging different awareness activities in the agency but they were not allowed to do so by the administration.
For the purpose, he said a students’ delegation had tried to meet the Assistant Political Agent Khar Jahangir Azam Wazir to get feedback about their proposed programme. But the APA not only refused to hold meeting, but also misbehaved with them by using abusive language.
He said the elders were also complaining about his crude attitude. —Bureau Report Police in search of rapist
LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 8: Police have intensified efforts to arrest a teenager who allegedly raped a seven years old girl in village Naverkhel on Tuesday.
Police said the accused took the girl to his guestroom and raped her there. They said the victim reached home and narrated the awful happening to her parents. Later, the girl was taken to city hospital where she was hospitalised in critical condition, they said.
Meanwhile, RPO Bannu Nisar Ahmad Tanoli on Wednesday met the victim girl, her father and other relatives in city hospital. DPO Lakki Marwat Umar Riaz also accompanied him. The RPO expressed his sorrow over the incident. He assured that police would provide the family with justice and take the culprit to task.
Meanwhile, police arrested a narcotics smuggler and seized hashish from him on Wednesday. —Correspondent Girl found murdered
NOWSHERA, Aug 8: The body of an unidentified young girl was recovered from a water channel near Pushtoon Gahri here on Wednesday.
The body was brought to District Headquarters Hospital Nowshera for autopsy where doctors, after medical examination, said that the victim was sexually abused before she was shot in the face. Pabbi police station registered the case and started investigation. —Correspondent
PTI leader warned
PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) central leadership has stopped a provincial leader from forming panels for the intra-party elections and using the title of political advisor to the party chairman Imran Khan.
The party central general secretary Dr Arif Alvi told Dawn on Wednesday that Shaukat Yousafzai who declared himself as political advisor to the chairman had been misusing his position.
“Mr Yousafzai has been asked not to form intra-party panel for the upcoming intra-party elections and not to carry out advertisement campaign for himself,” said Dr Alvi. Mr Yousafzai had declared himself candidate for the post of provincial president and formed his own panel in the name of grand workers group.Mr Alvi said no candidate could form own panel for the intra-party elections. He said that workers and leaders had been directed to follow the party’s code of conduct. Intra-party elections are scheduled to be held in September. —Bureau Report
Swat resident rewarded
PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has approved special cash award of Rs0.5 million for a resident of Swat district who laid down his life while saving the lives of four others in River Swat.
On June 3, 2012, Najamullah had jumped into River Swat in a bid to save the lives of four people who drowned after the car they were boarding plunged into the river. Najmullah lost his life while saving the others. The chief minister approved the cash grant for his family members as a mark of respect for his bravery and determination.—APP
Compensation for attack victims
PESHAWAR, Aug 8: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Wednesday approved remuneration package for the heirs of people killed in a bus attack by militants in Kohistan. An amount of Rs4.8 million would be distributed among heirs of 16 people who were killed on 28 February by firing of unknown miscreants on a bus going to Gilgit-Baltistan from Islamabad. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family members, the chief minister said that loss done could not be compensated, adding the endeavour of the government only aimed to share the grief of families affected by the incident.—APP
Three killed on road
PESHAWAR, Aug 8: Three persons died and 20 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned in Haripur district on Wednesday, police said.The bus (No-RIG 5767) loaded with passengers was going to Texila from Haripur but it overturned due to over-speeding when it reached near Khanpur.
As result, three passengers died on the spot and 20 others sustained wounds. The dead are identified as Mumtaz, Afkar and Saeed, residents of Khanpur. The injured were shifted to Haripur civil hospital.—APP
