Government bans pillion riding for Youm-i-Ali

KARACHI: The Sindh Government has placed a ban on pillion riding in Karachi and Hyderabad, as well as banning the carrying and display of firearms in Sindh, as security measures for the death anniversary of Hazrat Ali on 21st Ramzan (Aug 10), DawnNews reported.

According to the notification released by the ministry on Tuesday, the pillion riding ban has been enforced in Karachi from 19th Ramzan (Aug 8) to 22nd Ramzan (Aug 11) and in Hyderabad, from 20th Ramzan (Aug 10) to 22nd Ramzan (Aug 11). The Sindh Interior Ministry has enforced the ban according to the Section 144.

For the same duration, the Sindh Interior Ministry has also enforced a ban on carrying and displaying of firearms, as well as a ban on the public congregation of more than five people throughout the province.

However, during the pillion riding ban, women, the elderly, children and journalists would be exempted from the ban.

According to the Sindh Information Ministry sources, the ban has been enforced due to recommendation of the police. The Sindh Government has also requested that the ban must be observed strictly.
