GUJRANWALA, Dec 20: An anti-terrorism court on Friday convicted six people of kidnap for ransom while acquitted two women by giving them the benefit of doubt.

The court handed down death sentence, 10 years’ imprisonment and Rs100,000 fine to Sardar Jahanzeb Khan, Sardar Shahzad Khan, Riaz, Ghulam Abbas and Arshad alias Tariq and ordered forfeiture of their properties.

Sixth convict Ashfaq and Riaz were also awarded three years’ imprisonment with Rs10,000 fine each under other offences. Nasrin and Parveen were acquitted of the charge.

According to prosecution, the convicts kidnapped car showroom owners Farooq and Asim on Sialkot road on June 4 last along with Rs300,000 in cash and their vehicle, and took them to tribal area. They received Rs5 million ransom but did not release them. They demanded Rs5 million more ransom for their release. Sialkot raided their hideout and arrested them.

RECOVERED: Police on Friday recovered a youth from the tribal area, who was kidnapped for ransom from Gondlanwala Road.

Reports said some cheats received Rs500,000 from Faisal Riaz of Daska for sending him to Japan, but they failed to do so. When Riaz demanded his money back, Imran and Nawaz along with two accomplices kidnapped him and took him to the tribal area. They demanded Rs1 million from the family for his release.

However, the police conducted a raid and recovered him from the tribal area.

MILK MARKETING : The government will introduce projects in remote areas to provide better facilities of milk marketing to dairy farmers besides giving them soft-term loans.
