LAHORE, Aug 4: Two persons were killed and four others, including children, sustained injuries in train and road accidents in the city on Saturday.
The Mughalpura Railway police said that 16-year-old Salman Javed of Katchi Abadi Racecourse was killed and his fellows Ahad, 10, Zaman, 9, and another were injured after they were struck by a moving engine near the Dharampura railway crossing.
Police said the victims were returning after taking a bath in the city canal.
Quoting the engine driver, police said the victims didn’t leave the railway track despite being warned with repeated horns.Rescue 1122 ambulances shifted the injured to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
Batapur police said a speeding truck hit and injured two motorcyclists near Jallo Morr.
Sheroz, 22, of Dayal village and his friend were transported to a local hospital where Sheroz succumbed to his wounds.Police impounded the truck and took driver captured by witnesses into custody.
Crackdown: The Township circle police conducted flag march and search operation in the limits of four police stations to check anti-social elements linked to terrorism and other crimes on Saturday night.
The police quizzed and checked credentials of 150 tenants, detained two book-makers with seizure of an exchange comprising seven PTCL lines in Green Town and impounded 50 motorcycles during flag march and search operation from 8pm to 11pm.
Township circle ASP Fida Hussain told Dawn that 80 policemen began flag march from the Quaid-i-Azam Industrial Estate police station and covered areas of Green Town, Township and Johar Town.
He said residential and commercial areas and slums were covered to check suspected people.
