KARACHI: Man dies in road accident

KARACHI, Dec 20: A man died in a road accident in North Nazimabad late Thursday night.

Police said that an unidentified vehicle knocked down a pedestrian near Farooq-i-Azam Masjid in North Nazimabad.

The victim, identified as Mohammed Mulook, aged 27, died on the spot.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

EXPLOSION: A young man died when a gas cylinder exploded in a factory in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday morning.

Police said that a factory worker, Abdul Ghafoor, aged 30, was seriously injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a factory situated in sector 27. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, a heavy contingent of the area police rushed to the spot.

Residents, as well as police, took it for another explosion like the one a day earlier in Allahwala Town in Sector 31-B of Korangi, but it was a gas cylinder that had exploded in the factory.

Police are yet to ascertain what caused the cylinder explosion.

GAMBLERS HELD: Police raided a gambling den in Malir and arrested 108 men there late Thursday night.

A statement issued by police said that on a complaint received earlier CCPO Asad Ashraf Malik had ordered the TPO concerned to close down the gambling den within a week.

After a week, the CCPO, with a police party, himself raided the den.

He later went to the Malir City police station, suspended the SHO and issued a show-cause notice to TPO Malir Shafee Rind, the statement said.

Besides making arrests, po-lice also recovered Rs35,000 bet money from the gambling den.
