Fake tickets: three railway officers arrested

LAHORE, Aug 2: Fake tickets worth Rs19.5 million were sold to passengers at Khanpur railway station during last couple of months.

Three officers of the Pakistan Railways have been taken into custody in connection with the scam, according to Pakistan Railways Police Deputy Inspector-General Munir Ahmad Chishti.

Without disclosing the identity of those arrested being brought to Lahore for investigation, the DIG said more arrests were likely in connection with the scam.

Mr Chishti said a considerable decrease in income from Khanpur station alerted the railways high-ups who asked the police to look into the matter.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused used to sell fake tickets to passengers and pocket the money.
