LAHORE, Aug 1: A security guard looted Rs20 million bank cash while two robbers shot dead a motorcyclist in two separate incidents in the city on Wednesday.

Sher Muhammad of Askari CIT took away Rs20 million cash from the company’s cash van near Shadman Chowk in Civil Lines police station limits.

Police said when the company’s van, which was delivering cash to banks in routine, reached the National Bank, two guards took some bags containing cash to the bank while the van driver went to the washroom.

Suspect Sher Muhammad of Sheikhupura, who was present in the van alone, lifted four bags of currency and disappeared from the scene.

A case was registered against the suspect under Section 408 of the PPC on the complaint of the security company.

Police said raids were being conducted to arrest the suspect and a team had been sent to his hometown.

Mughalpura police said Rana Javed, 27, of Garhi Shahu was going on a bike along with his friend when robbers, riding a bike, stopped them on GT Road and tried to loot cash and valuables. As Javed resisted, one of the outlaws fired at him and escaped empty-handed. The injured was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Civil Lines SP (Operations) Abdul Qadir told Dawn the police found Rs350,000 cash in two pockets of the victim.

He said Javed was carrying money which he got after the sale of his brother-in-law’s car. He said the police had registered a case and started investigation.
