NAWABSHAH, Nov 21: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has urged the local bodies representatives to solve the problems of common people at local level with the cooperation of district Nazim and district coordination officer.
Addressing a gathering of Nazims, Naib Nazims, councillors, government officials and notables of Nawabshah district here at the district council hall on Wednesday, the Governor said: “We had little resources whereas the problems were numerous.
He said power had been transferred at grassroots levels to ensure the participation of the common people in the government, but he admitted, the newly introduced LB system also faced multifaceted problems.
He said though there was shortage of funds but hoped the elected members would solve the immediate problems with better management of available resources. He urged the elected representatives to prepare their budget according to their resources. He advised them to launch low-cost housing schemes so that the poor could get houses. He warned that no leniency would be tolerated in case of education and directed the officials to keep a watchful eye on the educational institutions, as these are the basis of nation.
He directed the district Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur to ensure that the possession of land distributed to local haris remained with them. He also advised the district Nazim for the distribution of Zakat through open kutchehry to make the process transparent. Responding to a proposal of the district Nazim regarding completion of sports stadium in Nawabshah, he said that federal government would be requested to provide funds in this regard. Secretary local government, Captain Qamar Zaman, in charge Army Supporting Team, Colonel Jamal Nasir, DIG Sukkur Range, Syed Mushtaq Shah, DCO Mehmood Ahmed Khan, and SSP Nawabshah Khamiso Khan Memon, were present at the occasion.
FARYAL: Earlier, district Nazim Faryal Talpur said that the visit of Governor Sindh to the district was remarkable as it would encourage us in our efforts to build a democratic society accountable to public.
She told the Governor that law and order was being checked and religious parties were under effective control. She said that the funds allocated for Khushhal Pakistan Programme phase-III would be spent on people-friendly projects ensuring maximum benefits through a comprehensive action plan.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: The Governor said that theft of irrigation water must be stopped, by taking legal action against the tempering hands.
He was talking to the Nazims at district council hall, Naushahro Feroze, on Wednesday afternoon.
When the Nazims complained that there was acute shortage in distributaries and minors in Naushahro Feroze, the Governor directed the SE Rohri circle, to explain the position. The SE said that there was shortage of water in River Indus. The Nazims again complained that the available water was illegally being taken by the influential landlords.
The governor said that law against theft of irrigation water was in existence and action had to be taken by the irrigation department. He directed the irrigation officers to seek help from administration and police and ensure that available water must be distributed judiciouisely.
He also warned those officers, who were not extending cooperation to the public representatives and said that they would not be spared and action would be taken against them accordingly.
He called upon the representatives to propose the development schemes of their respective areas so that these could be included in KPP phase-III on priority basis. Earlier, the district Nazim, Masroor Khan Jatoi narrated the problems being faced by the district government of Naushahro Feroze. The governor also planted a sapling of conocarpus in the premises of the district council offices.
