KARACHI, July 31: A sessions court dismissed on Tuesday the bail application of an accused in a murder case. Asim, said to be an activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi), along with absconding accomplices has been charged with killing Atiq-ur-Rehman, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and wounding his brother at the behest of Afaq Ahmed in the Ramaswami area in June 2009.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Javed Ahmed Keerio, who is conducting the trial inside the judicial complex (central prison), pronounced his order after hearing arguments from both sides.

A case (FIR 222/09) was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

MQM-H chief Afaq Ahmed is on bail in the present case.

Police high-ups told to stop IO’s salary

A sessions court directed on Tuesday the police high-ups to stop the salary of an investigation officer for his prolonged absence in a case pertaining to the murder of a retired female professor.

Saleem alias Shabbir and Khalida have been charged with killing their employer Prof Dr Zeba Zakia in January 2008.

The prosecution has examined all the witnesses except the IO, Shahid Hussain Qureshi, and on previous hearings the court issued show-cause notices and summons against him. However, he did not appear in court nor did he submit a reply.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Obaid Ahmed Khan, who is conducting the trial in the judicial complex, directed the police high-ups to stop the salary of the IO and ensure his presence on Aug 23 in court.
