LAHORE, July 30: A wrestler of Sheikhupura has claimed that he can create record in a new style of push-ups during the Punjab Youth Festival, scheduled for October this year.

“I will be taking the hardest way of push-ups which is difficult for the best wrestler to beat. The new style is a mix of push-ups and squats which will be 1,500 in an hour,” Muneer Pehalwan told newsmen after filing his documents for the Punjab Youth Festival at the Punjab Sports Board on Monday.

Muneer said he would improve his push-ups record of more than 2,503 in an hour, which he had made in 2011. He said he would also beat the previous best Guinness World Record of 3,877 push-ups by going up for 5,000 push-ups mark in an hour.

According to Guinness World Record, India’s Bijender Singh made a record of 3,877 push-ups in an hour on Sept 20, 1988.

“It’s the desi style of push-ups which is quite tough and hard than the regular style recorded by Bijender,” Muneer said and added that he had been working out daily for four hours to set the world record.

Punjab Sports Board Director-General Usman Anwar said all Pakistanis desirous of attempting for the world record have about three months and they should work hard in their bid so that there would not be any problem before the Guinness World Record team due in mid-October.
