SWABI, Nov 21: The Abaseen Union of Journalists has expressed anguish over the delay in the registration of case against an army major who had physically assaulted Dawn’s senior staff reporter Faraz Hashmi.

Mohammad Farooq and Haji Wali Mohammad, president and patron- in-chief of the union respectively, in a press statement on Wednesday, said that the non-registration of case against the serving army officer despite a medical report proved that the much-trumpeted police reforms were just an eye-wash.

The police instead of registering an FIR against the army officer adopted various tactics to compel the journalist to make a compromise with the accused, they added.
