BADIN, Dec 19: The sanitary staff of the Taluka Municipal Council, Shaheed Fazil Rahu, observed a strike on Thursday to protest against the manhandling of the Taluka chief officer, Qasim Shaikh, at the hands of a councillor of the union council, Shaheed Fazil Rahu, Iqbal Rashid.
The officer was allegedly beaten severely and his clothes were torn by the councillor over an octroi tax dispute regarding a cattle pen in the town.
The sanitary and other staff of the Taluka Office held a protest rally and marched from their office to the press club to protest against the incident.
They threatened to start a campaign against the councillor if no action was taken against him.
The Taluka municipal officer, Rafique Memon, told newsmen that Rashid considered himself to be the “king of the town” and being an influential person always took the law in his hands.
TRAFFIC: The normal flow of traffic on the Hyderabad-Badin road remained blocked for the third consecutive day on Thursday because of a convoy of trucks carrying sugarcane to the Ansari Sugar Mills, which has started crushing sugarcane.
