HYDERABAD, July 27: Acting chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz Dr Niaz Kalani has demanded removal of Sindh University Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Mughal and appointment of a VC from the faculty in public sector universities of the province.
Supporting a campaign launched by the Sindh University Teachers Association for removal of Dr Mughal, he urged teachers to continue their protests, but end boycott of classes.
Talking to journalist at the Jamshoro press club, he said student unions should be restored and their elections held.
He said the retired and corrupt vice chancellors were appointed in government-run universities which indicated a conspiracy to destroy higher education in the province.
With Dr Mughal returning to the post, the atmosphere in the university had been adversely affected and crime have increased. So far, he said, Prof Bashir Channar and four students have been murdered and many students injured in incidents of firing.
Dr Kalani claimed that some outsiders, with the support of an MNA, an MPA and the VC were brandishing weapons in the university and harassing students and staff.
