ISLAMABAD July 27: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to serve a third notice on Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain at his residence in connection with the Arsalan Iftikhar–Malik Riaz graft case after he failed again to appear before the Joint Investigation Team on Friday.
“The NAB has decided to issue a third summons to Dr Faqir Hussain in his private capacity strictly in accordance with the directions given by the Supreme Court,” NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal said.
He said since the registrar would be summoned in his private capacity, the summons would be sent to his residential address.
The NAB also decided to summon Arsalan Iftikhar on Monday or Tuesday to record his statement in the same case.
The NAB will treat Dr Hussain as a common man and not as the senior most officer of the Supreme Court. “Any correspondence by Dr Faqir Hussain as registrar or by using the official letterhead of Supreme Court henceforth will not be entertained by the JIT to the extent of his version or contention in this case,” the NAB spokesman said.
The summons are likely to be issued some time next week.
The NAB has made a formal request for International Mutual Legal Assistance from the relevant authorities in Britain through diplomatic channels and the UK High Commission in Pakistan.
The JIT has also sought the services of Serious Organised Crime Agency of UK for technical assistance and to ensure transparency in the process of evidence gathering in the case.
