LAHORE, July 26: The westerly wave over northern parts of the country moved away on Thursday after generating heavy rain in Sialkot and adjoining cities.

Lahore too received rain in the morning which though light kept weather mild at least till in the afternoon.

The Met office indicated decrease in the spell of rain because of the departure of the westerly wave. But it said another westerly wave in Afghanistan might generate more rain after reaching Pakistan in a day or two in league with the moist current from the Arabian Sea.

Sialkot received 128mm of rain which is the highest anywhere in the country during the current monsoon season. Mandi Bahauddin received 63mm, Kotli 58mm, Gujranwala 52mm, Jhelum 36mm, Malamjabba 24mm, Zhob 20mm, Drosh 19mm, Chakwal 10mm, Mangla, Saidu Sharif and Mianwali 8mm (each), Parachinar and Lower Dir 3mm (each), Lahore city 2mm.

The maximum temperature in Lahore was 34.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum 24.5 degrees Celsius with 84 per cent humidity in the morning and 59 per cent in the evening.

It will remain partly cloudy with chances of thunderstorm/rain in the city in the next 24 hours.

Scattered thundershower with isolated heavy falls was expected over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
