The recommendation, if accepted, will entitle a primary school teacher to start with a salary (including dearness allowance) of Rs 110.00 per month going up to Rs 175.00….
At present an untrained assistant master in the Directorate of Education in West Pakistan draws Rs 60.00 in the grade ending at Rs 120.00 plus the usual allowances. Even a First Year trained or Second Year trained assistant master is placed in the grade ranging between Rs 75.00 and Rs 120.00 plus the allowances.
In East Pakistan, the scales for salary prevailing in 1959 for the same categories were even lower. For instance a Matric trained head teacher in a Government Model School is placed in the grade of Rs 45-1-60. His counterpart in non-model schools has no grade at all. He draws a fixed salary of Rs 40 plus the dearness allowance.
Similarly, a Matric trained assistant teacher in a model school in East Pakistan has a grade of Rs 40-1-55 while his counterpart receives a fixed salary of Rs 40 plus the dearness allowance.
The lowest paid man in the educational set-up is the non-Matric untrained assistant teacher in a non-model school in East Pakistan. He draws a fixed salary of Rs 24.50 plus the dearness allowance….
The Commission, it is learnt, has recommended that qualified professors in the universities be placed in the grade of Rs 1500-2500….—Staff Correspondent
