PESHAWAR, July 25: Chief of his own faction of Pakistan People’s Party Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao has asked the government not to revoke the refugee status of Afghan nationals till complete restoration of peace in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PPP-S leader said that Afghan people were the victim of international politics and had lost everything in conflict, which started in 1979.

He said that insurgency still persisted in Afghanistan and the repatriation of Afghan refugees would add to their problem. He said that Afghanistan’s economy was dependent on western countries and illegal drug trade, and the country still needed stability to overcome these issues.

Mr Sherpao warned that sending Afghan refugees to their home country might deteriorate the already fragile relations between the two governments. He said that for the time being Pakistan should continue its support to Afghan people in this hour of need.
