Robber killed in ‘friendly fire’ during robbery

LAHORE, July 24: An alleged robber was killed and a teenager was injured in a house robbery near Awan Market in Nishtar Colony during Sehar hours on Tuesday.

Police inquiries showed that four robbers broke into the house of Nadeem Ahmad and started looting cash and valuables. Meanwhile, Nadeem’s younger brother, Nabeel, 17, overpowered one of the suspects.

His other accomplices opened fire and injured both the invader and Nabeel. The suspects fled leaving their accomplice in the home as neighbours also gathered outside house after gunfire.

Police rushed to the spot on an emergency call and shifted the body of the suspect for autopsy. Nabeel was admitted to Lahore General Hospital.

Police later identified the deceased as 26-year-old Akmal of Yohannaabad Kahna.

ACCIDENT: An unidentified man in his 20s was struck and killed by a vehicle near Babu Sabu Motorway Interchange on Tuesday.Sherakot police said the vehicle driver fled the scene.

BODY: Rescue 1122 found the body of a teenager from the branch canal at Chaubucha Railway Crossing and handed it over to Harbanspura police. Police suspected the boy apparently drowned while swimming in the canal.

INJURED: Two people were injured in a wall collapse incident on MM Alam Road in Gulberg on Tuesday. Rescue 1122 said Zahid, 30, and Shahzad, 21, to Services Hospital.

ANTI-ENCROACHMENT CAMPAIGN: On the directions of National Highways & Motorway Police DIG (N-5 Central) Rai Altaf Hussain, police have started a special anti-encroachment campaign along the national highway from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan in collaboration with the National Highway Authority and local police.

Teams have removed 70 permanent encroachments on national highway from Thokar Niaz Baig to Manga Mandi.
