SUKKUR, Dec 18: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday sentenced two persons to serve two separate terms of life imprisonment for killing a head constable and injuring a police constable in June 2001.

The judge of the anti-terrorism court-II, Sukkur and Larkana divisions, Mohammad Riaz Rajput, convicted accused Mohammad Qasim Bhund and Mohammad Sabir Narejo under Section 302 read with Section 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code and awarded them two life imprisonment terms besides imposing a fine amounting to Rs200,000 each. They are to serve an additional rigorous imprisonment term of two years in case of default.

The amount recovered in fine would be paid to the legal heirs of the deceased.

Both the accused were also accused and convicted under sections 324, 353, 337-P(i), 337-F (iii), 13 (e) and 7(e)ATA, 1997 and were awarded an additional imprisonment terms of 22 years besides being imposed a fine of Rs225,000.

According to a report lodged with the police on June 18, 2001 head constable Gobind Ram had been killed and police constable Rashid Minhas had been injured in an encounter near the Tari picket with 10 armed outlaws.

The gunmen had managed to escape.

Subsequently, an FIR was lodged and the above named accused were arrested and challaned in the court to stand trial.
