LAKKI MARWAT, July 22: Police have chalked out a comprehensive plan to maintain peace and tranquillity in the district during the holy month of Ramazan.An official told Dawn that the entire district had been divided into two sectors and six sub-sectors. He said that SDPOs would monitor security situation in sectors while SHOs would supervise the sub-sectors. “The station house officers will ensure protection of government installations, deployment of policemen at bazaars, public places, banks, grid stations, markets and mosques,” the official said.
According to the plan, he said, subordinate police officials would keep an eye on the movements of suspects and anti-social elements to take preventive measures to avert any untoward incident during Ramazan.
He said that arrangements had been made for night patrolling and protecting public properties through watchmen. “Besides setting up checkpoints on busy roads, deployment of law enforcers at the entrance and exit points of the district would also be enhanced,” he added.
He said that policemen would be also deployed outside mosques during Taraveeh and Friday prayers. Policemen in plainclothes would perform duty at markets, bus stands and bazaars to check activities of suspected elements, the official said.
He said that SHOs of different areas were issued instructions to convene meetings of welfare and peace committees to seek help from area elders for maintenance of peace and eradication of social evils.
He added that the personnel of bomb disposal squad and quick response force would remain standby to reach the troubled area when needed. “The elements involved in firing in the air and other anti-social activities will face strict legal action,” he added.
Meanwhile, RPO Bannu Nisar Ahmad Tanoli has ordered an inquiry into media reports according to which Naurang police have banned entry of those women, who come without male relatives, into the local bazaars and markets during Ramazan.
He directed district police authorities to probe the matter and initiate action against the officials responsible for it, said a press release.
According to the release, DPO Umar Riaz has also asked Naurang police officials to explain their position regarding passing such an illegal order.
